a summer.......in Nottingham
Well my two week summer hols are over, it's flown by just a bit too fast and now i'm back to coal face slaving away on my 2 week ophthalmology attachment. I suppose it could be worse, it's actually very interesting just not that hands on (and i'm angry and the lack of stethoscope use!). Ophthalmology as i'm sure almost everyone knows, is all about eyes. Interesting areas include diabetic retinopathy (how your eyes mess up long term if you have diabetes) and as always, a bit of trauma goes down well.
I got my exam results yesterday, and happily I passed everything so I know have a degree (a Bachelors of Medical Science). Everyone at Nottingham who completes 3rd year gets this degree without having to intercalate making the med school very attractive to people who want to do a bit of reasearch in their degree but not give up a year of their life.
I'm looking forward to the beginning of next week when I get to start my special study module (SSM). For 4 weeks of your 4th and 5th year students at nottingham get to choose a speciality that they find super interesting or think they need more practice at. I've chosen maxillo facial surgery. That is stuff like trauma to the face and head, clef lips and palates and cancer of the face and head. Really cool stuff, but to become a max fax surgeon you have to do dentistry and medicine! mental!
